Rear Door Window Motor: Service and Repair

Power Window Motor Replacement

Before deciding to replace the motor, check the mechanical part of the window regulator to make sure it operates properly, and check the switches and wiring to make sure that they are not the source of the problem. For access to the power window motor, first remove the window regulator.

To remove and install

1. Remove the drive cover and seal.

2. Remove the assembly cover from the new motor. Secure it to the old cable drive assembly with tie wraps or equivalent.

NOTE: The assembly cover is used to secure the cable drive and prevent the spring-loaded cable assembly from needlessly coming apart.

3. Remove the vaned drive gear and spacer from the new motor, and place them in position on the cable drive assembly.
4. Join the new motor to the cable drive assembly. Gently move the cable mechanism as necessary to align the motor pinion gear and the cable drive gear.
5. Remove the tie wraps and the assembly cover. Without disturbing the mechanism, check to see that the cable drive and the drive gear fit properly.
6. Reinstall the drive cover and seal. Tighten the bolts evenly in diagonal sequence.
