Fault Memory Readouts (Part 3 Of 3):

1. Press ``PRINT'' button for a complete printout of functions, light will come on.
2. Press button ``1'' to access ``Rapid Data Transmission'' operating mode, then turn ignition switch to On position.
3. Press buttons ``5'' and ``7'' to insert address word, ``Airbag Golf Cabriolet,'' then press ``Q'' button to enter data.
4. Control unit serial number appears on display.
5. If ``Control unit does not answer-HELP appears, press ``HELP'' button for printout of possible causes.
6. Correct any problems before proceeding, then repeat address word ``57'' (Airbag Golf Cabriolet).
7. Press ``Q'' button again to enter data, then press the arrow button.
8. ``Rapid data transmission-HELP, select function-XX will appear.
9. Press buttons ``0'' and ``2,'' to access fault memory, then press ``Q'' button to enter data. Number of faults stored, if any, will appear on display.
10. Press arrow button, stored faults are displayed in sequence and printed out.
11. Press arrow button, after last fault is displayed/printed.
12. Rapid data transmission-HELP, select function-XX will appear.
13. Diagnose and correct airbag system faults using charts in Fig. 2.
14. If a component is diagnosed as defective, visually inspect wiring to that component.
15. If several components are listed as defective, service one component at a time, erasing fault memory and re-accessing it, after each fault is corrected.
