Valve Body, Disassembling / Assembling
If the valve body is badly contaminated it must be disassembled for cleaning. The component parts should be placed in the storage tray as they are removed in order to ensure that they are put back in their original positions. The shape of the tray corresponds roughly with the shape of the valve body to facilitate the reassembly of the valves and springs.Dissembling
The valve body should normally only be disassembled for cleaning when transmission trouble has occurred due to burnt linings or very dirty ATF. If the fluid is still fairly clean it will usually be sufficient to flush the complete valve body, without dismantling, in fresh cleaning solution and then to dry it afterwards with compressed air.
- remove end plates on one side, take out valves and springs one after the other and place them in the storage tray.
- remove the end plates on the other side and repeat procedure.
- put lid on storage tray.
- 3-2 kickdown control valve with spring and applicator valve and bushing must be cleaned separately. These parts cannot be put in the tray.
Note
Valves which are slightly scored may be reused:
this will not affect the function of the transmission.
- flush the tray complete with disassembled parts in cleaning solution and then dry with compressed air. Do not use water.
Assembling
The components should be assembled on a clean bench. Do not use fluffy cloths when assembling the parts.
The valves and springs must be returned to the same holes in the valve body when reassembling.
Insert springs and valves on one side first and install end plates, then insert valves and springs on the other side and install end plates.
Note
Lubricate all valves with ATF when assembling and check for freedom of movement. The valves must slide under their own weight in the holes.
