Ignition Coil And Ground Strap:

NOTE: To further assist you during testing, see DIAGRAMS. Diagrams

CAUTION: Always turn ignition OFF when connecting or disconnecting terminals.
Be sure to check the integrity of the wires, connectors, ignition switch, battery terminals and fuses before replacing an expensive component.

1. Check coil ground strap for connection and integrity. Repair as needed.
2. Connect a voltmeter between coil terminal 15 (+) and ground.
3. Turn ignition to the ON position. Reading should be:

Approx. 12 volts

If not, check wiring, connectors (INCL. battery terminals), fuse and ignition switch. Repair as needed and retest.
4. Turn ignition OFF.
5. Disconnect all wires to the ignition coil.

Checking Coil Between Terminals 1 And 15:

6. Connect an ohmmeter between terminal 1 (-) and 15 (+). Reading should be:

Coil w/ green label: 0.52 - 0.76 ohm
Coil w/ gray label: 0.6 - 0.8 ohm

If not, replace and retest with new coil.

Checking Coil Between Terminals 1 And 4:

7. Connect the ohmmeter between terminal 4 (center) and 15 (+). Reading should be:

Coil w/ green label: 2400 - 3500 ohms
Coil w/ gray label: 6900 - 8500 ohms

If not, replace and retest with new coil.
8. If coil passes test, it is in good operating condition.
9. Reconnect all connectors.
