Fuse/relay panel removal and installation

Beginning in January, 1989, a revised fuse/relay panel has been integrated into German produced 1989 Jetta vehicles. Following is the new removal and installation procedure for the fuse/relay panel and multi-point connectors, To remove the fuse/relay panel:
^ remove lower instrument panel trim
^ spread retaining clips 1 and disengage lock pins 2 from brackets 4
^ swing retaining clips 1 forward and pull from fuse/relay panel pins 3
^ spread left retaining bracket 4 and disengage from pin 5
^ lift fuse/relay panel from brackets 4
^ remove multi-point connectors from back of fuse/relay panel and remove fuse/relay panel
^ install in reverse order of removal making sure pin 5 and retaining pins 2 engage proper recesses in brackets 4
Multi-point connector, on fuse/relay panel
Removing
^ pull open locking slide 1 on back of fuse/relay panel in direction indicated (arrow)
^ depress locking clip (arrow) and pull multipoint connector from fuse/relay panel
Installing
^ insert connector so that locking pins 2 face locking slide 1
^ push multi-point connector into appropriate location 4 until locking clip 3 engages
^ push locking slide 1 in direction indicated (arrow) until locked
Note
Fully insert all multi-point connectors into fuse/ relay panel before engaging locking slide 1
