It is necessary to modify the idle speed boost valve wiring on some 1984 Rabbit CIS models. This will prevent idle speed fluctuations.
This modification must be done before delivery to the customer or at the earliest dealer visit.
The affected vehicles were manufactured from the beginning of 1984 production:
with A/C, up to VIN EV015992 without A/C, up to VIN EV016012
Note Westmoreland personnel may have already modified some of these vehicles.
Parts required:
terminal end P/N 175 972 657 B
terminal housing P/N 175 971 999B
jumper wire P/N 175 971 563F
tie-wrap obtained locally

Work sequence
- disconnect battery ground (-) strap
- cut brown wire to idle speed boost valve ( black ) 50 mm (2.0 in) from connector boot (Fig. 1)
- crimp terminal to idle speed boost valve wire and insert in plastic housing (Fig... 1)
- tape other end of cut wire to wiring harness
- connect jumper wire to new connector and tie-wrap wire to vacuum hose
- route jumper wire along firewall with engine harness using existing retainers
- connect wire to terminal 15 (+) of ignition coil
- connect battery ground (-) strap
