Checking Engine Speed Sensor System

CHECKING ENGINE SPEED SENSOR SYSTEM

[CHECK/1] Check harness at control unit end
1. Turn the ignition key switch OFF and remove connector [I-97-2].
2. Measure the resistance between terminal (11) and terminal (24) of instrument connector [I-97-2].

3. Check the insulation between terminal (11) of connector [I-97-2] and the body.
4. Check the insulation between terminal (24) of connector [I-97-2] and the body.

5. Judgement
- Resistance value is as specified -> sensor normal -> go to [CHECK/4]
- Disconnection, short circuit, defective insulation, or resistance value is not as specified -> go to [CHECK/2]

[CHECK/2] Check engine speed sensor body
1. Measure the resistance between terminal (2) and terminal (1) of harness connector [E-2] of engine speed sensor.
2. Check the insulation between the body and terminals (2) and (1) of connector [E-2].

3. Judgement
- Resistance value is as specified -> sensor normal go to [CHECK/3]
- Disconnection, short circuit, defective insulation, or resistance value is not as specified -> replace sensor -> go to [CHECK/4]

[CHECK/3] Check for abnormality in harness

1. Refer to the table below and check for continuity, short circuit, and insulation between harness connector [E-2] of the engine speed sensor and harness connector [I-97-2] of the control unit.

2. Judgement
- If the harness is abnormal (disconnection, short circuit, etc.) -> repair or replace the harness
- If the harness is not abnormal -> abnormality in control unit -> replace control unit

[CHECK/4] Check engine speed sensor gap
1. Check the gap between the engine speed sensor and the camshaft gear.

2. Judgement
- Gap normal -> check again from [CHECK/1], or replace C.U.
- Gap defective -> adjust as follows
1) Set so that the end face of the sensor contacts the protrusions, then turn back one turn and lock with the locknut.

NOTE: After completing each operation, carry out troubleshooting with the diagnostic light and confirm that there is no abnormality.
