U340E AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION / TRANSAXLE: DIFFERENTIAL CASE (for Hatchback): DISASSEMBLY
1. REMOVE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CASE FRONT TAPERED ROLLER BEARING
(a) Using SST, remove the front differential case front tapered roller bearing inner race from the differential case.

2. REMOVE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CASE REAR TAPERED ROLLER BEARING
(a) Using SST, remove the front differential case rear tapered roller bearing inner race from the differential case.

(b) Using SST, remove the front differential case rear tapered roller bearing outer race and the front differential rear case shim from the transaxle case.

3. REMOVE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL RING GEAR
(a) Place matchmarks on the front differential ring gear and the differential case.

(b) Using SST and a hammer, release the ring gear lock plate.

(c) Remove the 8 bolts and the 4 ring gear lock plates.
(d) Using a plastic hammer, remove the front differential ring gear from the differential case.
4. REMOVE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL PINION SHAFT STRAIGHT PIN
(a) Using a punch and hammer, release the staked part of the differential case hole.
(b) Using a pin punch 5 mm and hammer, remove the front differential pinion shaft straight pin from the differential case.
5. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 DIFFERENTIAL PINION SHAFT
(a) Remove the front No. 1 differential pinion shaft from the differential case.
6. REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL GEAR KIT
(a) Remove the differential gear kit (2 front differential pinions and 2 front differential side gears), 2 front differential side gear thrust washers and the 2 front differential pinion thrust washers from the differential case.
