B2782

STEERING COLUMN: STEERING LOCK SYSTEM: B2782: Power Source Control ECU Malfunction
B2782 - Power Source Control ECU Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The power management control ECU has a power source mode switching function.

This DTC is stored when the IGE input (the steering lock motor activation permission signal) sent directly from the power management control ECU to the steering lock ECU is determined to be abnormal.

HINT
The steering lock ECU is not connected to the CAN communication system. However, the steering lock ECU is connected to the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) via LIN communication and communicates with other components via CAN communication through the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly).

* *: Only output while a malfunction is present and the power switch is on (IG).

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
* When using the Techstream with the power switch off, perform either of the following: 1) Turn a courtesy light switch on and off at intervals of 1.5 seconds or less until communication between the Techstream and vehicle begins, or 2) connect the Techstream to the vehicle, select the vehicle type under manual mode, and then enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Smart Key / Trouble Codes.
* The steering lock system uses LIN communication. First perform the inspections in "How to Proceed with Troubleshooting" to confirm that there are no communication malfunctions before proceeding with troubleshooting How to Proceed With Troubleshooting.
* When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization.
* After performing repairs, perform the DTC output confirmation operation, and then confirm that no DTCs are output again Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
* When replacing the steering lock ECU (steering lock actuator assembly) or power management control ECU, registration must be performed Engine Immobilizer System.

PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT STEERING LOCK ECU (MOTOR ACTIVATION COMMAND SIGNAL)

(a) Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connector.

(b) Disconnect the I24 steering lock ECU connector.

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

(d) Reconnect the I24 steering lock ECU connector.

(e) Turn the power switch off, make sure that the steering is unlocked and move the shift lever to P.

(f) Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below.

HINT
* When taking measurements when the lock motor is stopped, it is not necessary to perform any operations.
* In order to take measurements when the lock motor is operating, perform either of the following operations:
* To unlock the steering, carry the key and turn the power switch on (ACC) or on (IG) with the shift lever in P.
* To lock the steering, turn the power switch off with the shift lever in P, and then open a door.

NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STEERING LOCK ECU - POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU)
OK -- Continue to next step.

2. CLEAR DTC AND DATA LIST MALFUNCTION RECORD

(a) Clear the DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, wait for 30 seconds or more, and then reconnect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to clear the record of malfunctions stored in the Data List.

CAUTION:
After turning the power switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the auxiliary battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the auxiliary battery terminal notices before proceeding with work Service Precautions.

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (POWER SUPPLY SHORT)

(a) Perform the DTC output confirmation operation.

(b) Check if DTC B2782 is output Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(c) Use the Data List to check if the steering lock control is functioning properly.

Result:

B -- REPLACE STEERING LOCK ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY Disassembly

A -- SYSTEM RETURNED TO NORMAL (DTC STORED DUE TO BAD CONNECTION, BUT SYSTEM RETURNED TO NORMAL BY RECONNECTING CONNECTOR)

4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STEERING LOCK ECU - POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU)

(a) Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.

(b) Disconnect the I24 steering lock ECU connector.

(c) Disconnect the I4 power management control ECU connector.

(d) Check for deformation and corrosion of the connector case and terminals.

OK:

There is no deformation or corrosion of the connector case or terminals.

(e) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

OK -- REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU Removal
