P311 HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL: HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM: P2120-152-P2123-105,P2125-153-P2128-108,P2138-110,P2138-154: Throttle / Pedal Position Sensor / Switch "D" Circuit

DESCRIPTION

The accelerator pedal position sensor is mounted on the accelerator pedal to detect how much the pedal is depressed. This is a non-contact sensor with hall elements. It has 2 sensors per sensor unit. One is used to detect the accelerator pedal position and the other is used as a confirmation to allow the detection of a malfunction in the sensor itself. Voltage is output from the accelerator pedal position sensor to terminals VPA1 and VPA2 of the hybrid vehicle control ECU. This voltage varies from 0 to 5 V in accordance with the accelerator pedal position. Terminal VPA2 is primarily used to detect a malfunction in the sensor itself. The hybrid vehicle control ECU determines the current accelerator pedal position and controls the hybrid control system based on signals received by terminals VPA1 and VPA2.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

CAUTION:
- Before inspecting the high-voltage system or disconnecting the low voltage connector of the inverter with converter assembly, take safety precautions such as wearing insulated gloves and removing the service plug grip to prevent electrical shocks. After removing the service plug grip, put it in your pocket to prevent other technicians from accidentally reconnecting it while you are working on the high-voltage system.
- After disconnecting the service plug grip, wait for at least 10 minutes before touching any of the high-voltage connectors or terminals. After waiting for 10 minutes, check the voltage at the terminals in the inspection point in the inverter with converter assembly. The voltage should be 0 V before beginning work.
HINT
Waiting for at least 10 minutes is required to discharge the high-voltage capacitor inside the inverter with converter assembly.

PROCEDURE

1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM

(a) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(b) Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Accel Pedal Pos #1, Accel Pedal Pos #2.

(c) Read the data list.

HINT
5 V is described as 100% on the tester.

Result:

OK -- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
NG -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) P0343

NG -- CONNECT SECURELY
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (ACCELERATOR PEDAL ROD CONNECTOR)

(a) Check the connections of the accelerator pedal rod connector.

OK:

The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact problems.

NG -- CONNECT SECURELY
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU

(a) Disconnect the A17 accelerator pedal rod connector.

(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard voltage:

NOTICE:
Turning the power switch on (IG) with the accelerator pedal rod connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - ACCELERATOR PEDAL ROD)
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU

(a) Turn the power switch off.

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

OK -- REPLACE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ROD
NG -- Continue to next step.

6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - ACCELERATOR PEDAL ROD)

(a) Turn the power switch off.

(b) Disconnect the A61 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.

(c) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(d) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard voltage:
