Shift Cable: Service and Repair
TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLECOMPONENTS:
REMOVAL
1. PRECAUTION
NOTICE: Do not open the cover or the case of the ECU and various electrical devices unless absolutely necessary (If the IC terminals are touched, the IC may be destroyed by static electricity.).
2. DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait for 90 secondsm after disconnecting the cable to prevent airbag deployment.
3. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY
4. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY CTR
5. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BOX
6. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER CENTER
7. REMOVE AIR BAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY CENTER
8. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
9. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO.1
(a) Remove the 3 nuts and heat insulator No. 1.
10. SEPARATE FLOOR SHIFT CABLE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHIFT
(a) Remove the clip, washer and disconnect the cable end of the shift cable from the shift lever assembly.
(b) Turn the lock and disconnect the shift cable from the shift lever assembly.
(c) Pull out the shift cable from the floor.
11. SEPARATE FLOOR SHIFT CABLE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SELECT
(a) Remove the clip and disconnect the cable end of the select cable from the shift lever assembly.
(b) Turn the lock and disconnect the select cable from the shift lever assembly.
(c) Pull out the select cable from the floor.
12. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 2 clip, 2 washer and disconnect the cable end of the control cable assembly from the transaxle.
(b) Remove the 2 clip and disconnect the control cable assembly from the bracket.
(c) Remove the 2 nuts and disconnect the control cable assembly.
(d) Disconnect the control cable assembly from the clamp.
(e) Remove the 2 bolts from the retainer.
(f) Pull out the control cable assembly from the floor.
(g) Remove the retainer from the grommet.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the retainer to the grommet.
NOTICE: Fit 4 projections of the grommet into 4 holes of the retainer.
(b) Install the control cable assembly with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf/cm, 44 in. lbs.)
(c) Connect the shift cable with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf/cm, 44 in. lbs.)
(d) Connect the shift cable with the 2 clip from the bracket.
(e) Connect the shift cable end of the shift cable with the 2 washer and 2 clip to the transaxle.
2. CONNECT FLOOR SHIFT CABLE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SELECT
(a) Connect the select cable to the shift lever assembly.
NOTICE:
^ The projecting part of the cable outer should face upward when the shift cable is installed.
^ Make sure that after installation the cable outer spring is moved to the place shown in the illustration.
(b) Connect the select cable end with the clip to the shift lever assembly.
(c) Connect the select cable to the clamp.
3. CONNECT FLOOR SHIFT CABLE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHIFT
(a) Connect the shift cable to the shift lever assembly.
NOTICE:
^ The projecting part of the cable outer should face upward when the shift cable is installed.
^ Make sure that after installation the cable outer spring is moved to the place shown in the illustration.
(b) Connect the shift cable end as shown in the illustration.
(c) Install the washer and clip.
(d) Connect the shift cable to the clamp.
4. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO.1
(a) Install the heat insulator No. 1 with the 3 nuts.
Torque: 5.5 Nm (56 kgf/cm, 49 in. lbs.)
5. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
6. INSTALL AIR BAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY CENTER
7. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER CENTER
8. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL BOX
9. INSTALL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY CTR
10. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY
11. CONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
12. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
