Shift Cable: Service and Repair

TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE

COMPONENTS:

REMOVAL
1. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONER UNIT ASSEMBLY
2. SEPARATE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY CENTER
(a) Remove the 3 bolts, and separate the airbag sensor assembly center.
3. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
4. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO. 1
(a) Remove the 3 nuts and heat insulator No. 1.

5. SEPARATE FLOOR SHIFT CABLE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHIFT
(a) Remove the clip and separate the end of the shift cable from the shift lever assembly.

(b) Using a screwdriver, release the cable outer spring.
(c) Turn the lock, and separate the shift cable from the shift lever retainer.

6. SEPARATE FLOOR SHIFT CABLE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SELECT
(a) Remove the clip and separate the end of the select cable from the shift lever assembly.

(b) Using a screwdriver, release the cable outer spring.
(c) Turn the lock, and separate the select cable from the shift lever retainer.

7. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 2 clip and 2 washers, and separate the top of the control cable assembly from the transaxle.
(b) Remove the 2 clips, and separate the control cable assembly from the control cable bracket.

(d) Remove the 2 bolts from the retainer.
(e) Pull out the control cable assembly from the floor.

(f) Remove the retainer from the grommet.
(g) Remove the control cable assembly from the grommet.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the control cable assembly to the grommet.
(b) Install the retainer to the grommet.

NOTICE: Fit 4 projections of the grommet into 4 holes of the retainer.

(d) Install the clamp with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.)

(e) Connect the control cable assembly to the control cable bracket, and install 2 new clips.
(f) Connect the control cable assembly to the transaxle, and install the 2 washers and 2 clips.

2. CONNECT FLOOR SHIFT CABLE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SELECT
(a) Connect the end of the select cable and clip to the shift lever assembly.

(b) Connect the select cable to the retainer of the shift lever assembly, and turn the lock.

NOTICE: The projecting part of the lock should face upward when the select cable is installed.

(c) Install the cable outer spring to the lock.

NOTICE: Make sure that after installation the cable outer spring is moved to the place shown in the illustration.

3. CONNECT FLOOR SHIFT CABLE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHIFT
(a) Connect the end of the shift cable and clip to the shift lever assembly.

(b) Connect the shift cable to the retainer of the shift lever assembly, and turn the lock.

NOTICE: The projecting part of the lock should face upward when the shift cable is installed.

(c) Install the cable outer spring to the lock.

NOTICE: Make sure that after installation the cable outer spring is moved to the place shown in the illustration.

4. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO. 1
(a) Install the heat insulator No. 1 with the 3 nuts.
Torque: 5.5 Nm (56 kgf-cm, 49 inch lbs.)
5. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
6. CONNECT AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY CENTER
(a) Install the airbag sensor assembly center with the 3 bolts.
Torque: 18 Nm (180 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.)
7. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
