Component Tightening Specifications and Sequences
CYLINDER HEADUsing several steps, uniformly install and tighten the 10 cylinder head set bolts and plate washers with a 10 mm bi-hexagon wrench in the order shown in the illustration.
Torque 70 Nm (714 kgf-cm, 52 ft. lbs.)
Retighten the cylinder head bolts 90° in the sequence shown in the illustration.
CYLINDER HEAD SET BOLT
Standard bolt length 141.3 to 142.7 mm (5.563 to 5.618 inch)
Maximum bolt length 144.2 mm (5.677 inch)
If the bolt length is greater than the maximum, replace the cylinder head set bolt.
INTAKE MANIFOLD
Install the intake manifold with the 5 bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque 30 Nm (306 kgf-cm 22 ft. lbs.)
CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP
Using several steps, uniformly tighten the 20 bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: No. 1 and No. 2 bearing cap 30 Nm (301 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.)
No. 3 bearing cap 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.)
MAIN BEARING
Step 1
Install and uniformly tighten the 10 main bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.)
Further tighten the 10 main bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 40 Nm (408 kgf-cm, 30 ft. lbs.)
Step 2
Mark the front of the bearing cap bolts with paint.
Further tighten the bearing cap bolts by 90° in the numerical order shown in the previous illustration.
Check that the paint mark is now at a 90° angle to the front.
CRANKSHAFT PULLEY
Torque 170 Nm (1,734 kgf-cm, 125 ft. lbs.)
FLYWHEEL
Install the flywheel with the 8 bolts. Uniformly tighten the 8 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 130 Nm (1,330 kgf-cm, 96 ft. lbs.)
OIL PUMP
Install a new gasket and the oil pump with the 3 bolts.
Torque 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.)
EXHAUST MANIFOLD CONVERTER
Temporarily tighten the exhaust manifold converter with the 5 nuts.
Tighten the 5 nuts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 37 Nm (378 kgf-cm, 27 ft. lbs.)
WATER PUMP
Install the water pump and clamp bracket with the 4 bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.)
