Removal and Replacement

Instrument Panel Safety Pad:

INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD

REMOVAL

HINT: Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

1. TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT

HINT: The bolts, screws and nuts necessary for installation and removal of the instrument panel are illustrated and alphabetically coded.

2. DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait for at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the airbag from working.

3. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.2
4. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.3
5. REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY
6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY

SST 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021)

7. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER LWR
8. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER

9. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY
a. Disconnect the connectors.

b. Remove the 3 screws and the turn signal switch assembly w/spiral cable sub-assembly.

10. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (for Coupe)
11. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (for Convertible)
12. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH (for Coupe)
13. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH (for Convertible)
14. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for Coupe)
15. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for Convertible)
16. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY RH (for Coupe)
17. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY RH (for Convertible)

18. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL LOWER
a. Disengage the 5 clips and remove the instrument cluster finish panel lower, then disconnect the connectors.

19. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PLATE

20. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER
a. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the instrument panel finish panel lower.

21. REMOVE NO.1 INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY
a. Disengage the 4 claws and remove the No.1 instrument panel register assembly.

22. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 clips from the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly.
b. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly.

23. REMOVE CLOCK ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 screws and the clock assembly from instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly.

24. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 3 screws.
b. Pull out the combination meter assembly, then disconnect the connectors.

25. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH LOWER PANEL LH

a. Using a screwdriver, open the cover of the instrument panel finish lower panel LH.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use to avoid damage.

b. Remove the bolt and the screw .
c. Disconnect the hood lock control cable assembly.
d. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the instrument panel finish lower panel LH.
e. Disconnect the connectors.

26. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL LOWER INSERT SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
a. Disconnect the DLC3 connector.
b. Remove the 5 bolts or and the instrument panel lower insert sub-assembly LH.

27. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.

28. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Using a moulding remover, disengage the claw and the 8 clips, and remove the console upper rear panel sub-assembly.

HINT: Set the shift lever in the N position (A/T).

29. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 bolts and the 2 screws .
b. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the console box sub-assembly rear with console door.
c. Disconnect the connectors.

30. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the console sub-assembly upper.
b. Disconnect the connectors.

31. REMOVE CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. As shown in the illustration, push on the upper side of the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly center from the back of the meter to make a clearance.

NOTE: Perform this procedure wearing protective gloves.

b. Pull the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly center towards you using your fingers to disengage each clip.
c. Disconnect the connector and remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly center.

32. REMOVE CENTER CLUSTER INTEGRATION PANEL ASSEMBLY (W/O NAVIGATION SYSTEM)

33. REMOVE NO.1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Disengage the 3 claws, pull the No.1 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly in the direction indicated by the arrow, and remove it.

34. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH LOWER PANEL RH
a. Remove the bolt and the 4 screws .
b. Disengage the claw and remove the clip and the instrument panel finish lower panel RH.

35. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX FRONT
a. Remove the 3 screws and 2 nuts .
b. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the console box front.

36. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH
37. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH
38. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
39. REMOVE NO.2 INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
40. REMOVE FRONT NO.2 SPEAKER ASSEMBLY
41. REMOVE GLOVE BOX LIGHT ASSEMBLY
42. REMOVE NO.3 INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY

43. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD CAP
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the instrument panel safety pad cap.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use to avoid damage.

44. DISCONNECT PASSENGER AIRBAG CONNECTOR

45. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the bolts , screws or and nut as shown in the illustration below.
b. Disconnect the connectors.
c. Pull the instrument panel safety pad towards you and check that none of the wire harnesses are stuck in the body.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Using a torque wrench, install the bolt .

Torque: 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 in.lbf)

b. Install the instrument panel safety pad sub-assembly with the bolts , screws or and nut .

2. CONNECT PASSENGER AIRBAG CONNECTOR
3. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD CAP
4. REMOVE NO.3 INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY
5. INSTALL GLOVE BOX LIGHT ASSEMBLY
6. INSTALL FRONT NO.2 SPEAKER ASSEMBLY
7. INSTALL NO.2 INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
8. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
9. INSTALL FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH
10. INSTALL FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH
11. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX FRONT
12. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH LOWER PANEL RH
13. INSTALL NO.1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
