Back Window Glass: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. REMOVE REAR SEAT CUSHION
2. REMOVE REAR SEATBACKS
3. REMOVE REAR SEATBACK SIDE HINGES
Remove the 2 bolts and 2 hinges.
4. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the front door scuff plate.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
b. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
5. REMOVE QUARTER TRIM PANEL
a. Using a screwdriver, remove and open the 2 screw covers of the rear assist grip.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
b. Remove the 2 screws and rear assist grip.
c. Using a screwdriver, remove the quarter trim panel.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
d. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
6. REMOVE ROOF SIDE INNER GARNISH
a. Remove the front seat outer belt shoulder anchor and bolt.
b. Remove a screw and coat hook.
c. Remove a clip.
d. Using a screwdriver, remove the roof side inner garnish.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
e. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
7. w/ High-mounted stop light:
REMOVE HIGH-MOUNTED STOP LIGHT
a. Push on the both sides of the cover to disengage the claws by your hand and remove the cover as shown in the illustration.
b. Remove the stop light, then disconnect the connector.
8. REMOVE PACKAGE TRAY TRIM
a. CANADA:
Remove the 3 CRS tether anchor covers and tether anchor brackets.
b. Remove the 3 clips.
c. Using a screwdriver, remove the seat belt bezels from the package tray trim.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
d. Pull the package tray trim forward to remove it.
9. REMOVE ROOM PARTITION BOARD
Remove the 9 clips and room partition trim.
10. REMOVE UPPER BACK TRIM
a. Remove the 2 bolts and rear seat outer belts LH and RH.
b. Remove the upper back trim.
11. REMOVE BACK WINDOW OUTSIDE MOULDING
a. Using a knife, cutoff the moulding as shown in the illustration.
NOTE: Do not damage the body with the knife.
b. Remove the remaining moulding.
12. REMOVE BACK DOOR GLASS
a. Disconnect the connector.
b. Push piano wire through from the interior.
c. Tie both wire ends to wooden blocks or similar objects.
HINT: Apply protective tape to the outer surface to keep the surface from being scratched.
NOTE: When separating the glass, take care not to damage the paint and exterior.
d. Cut the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around it.
HINT: Cut the adhesive areas as shown in the illustration, leaving the adhesive where the stoppers are.
e. Let the piano wire pass as shown in the illustration, cut off the adhered parts to the stoppers.
NOTE: Do not damage the glass stoppers.
f. Remove the glass.
NOTE: Leave as much of the adhesive on the body as possible when cutting off the glass.
INSTALLATION
1. CLEAN AND SHAPE CONTACT SURFACE OF BODY
a. Using a knife, cut away any rough areas on the body.
HINT: Leave as much of the adhesive on the body as possible.
b. Clean the cutting surface of the adhesive with a piece of shop rag saturated in cleaner.
HINT: Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the body.
2. CLEAN REMOVED GLASS
a. Remove the damaged No.2 stoppers.
b. Using a scraper, remove the adhesive sticking to the glass.
c. Clean the glass with cleaner.
NOTE:
- Be careful not to damage the glass.
- Do not touch the glass face after cleaning it.
3. REPLACE NO.1 STOPPERS
a. Remove the damaged stoppers.
b. Cut off the old adhesive around the stoppers installation area.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the body.
c. Clean the installation area.
d. Attach new stoppers to the body with the notches on the body aligned with the stoppers as shown in the illustration.
4. INSTALL NEW NO.2 STOPPERS
Attach new stoppers to the glass with the ceramic notches on the glass aligned with the stoppers as shown in the illustration.
5. INSTALL NEW BACK WINDOW OUTSIDE MOULDING
Install new back window outside moulding to the back window glass as shown in the illustration.
HINT:
- Install the back window outside moulding from the center of the glass at the lower side of the vehicle.
- When installing the back window outside moulding, do not stretch it.
6. POSITION GLASS
a. Place the glass in the correct position.
b. Check that all contacting part of the glass rim are perfectly even.
c. Place reference marks between the glass and body.
d. Remove the glass.
7. CLEAN CONTACT SURFACE OF GLASS
Using a cleaner, clean the contact surface which is black-colored area around the entire glass rim.
NOTE: Do not touch the glass face after cleaning it.
8. COAT CONTACT SURFACE OF BODY WITH PRIMER "M"
Using a brush, coat Primer M to the exposed part of body on the vehicle side.
NOTE:
- Let the primer coating dry for 3 minutes or more.
- Do not coat Primer M to the adhesive.
- Do not keep any of the opened Primer M for later use
9. COAT CONTACT SURFACE OF GLASS WITH PRIMER "G"
a. Using a brush or sponge, coat the edge of the glass and the contact surface with Primer G as shown in the illustration.
b. When the primer is coated wrongly to the area other than the specified, wipe it off with a clean shop rag before the primer dries.
NOTE:
- Let the primer coating dry for 3 minutes or more.
- Do not keep any of the opened Primer G for later use.
10. APPLY ADHESIVE
a. Cut off the tip of the cartridge nozzle.
Part No.08850-00801 or equivalent.
HINT: After cutting off the tip, use all adhesive within the time described in the table.
b. Load the cartridge into the sealer gun.
c. Coat the glass with adhesive as shown in the illustration.
A: 12.0 mm (0.472 in.)
B: 8.0 mm (0.315 in.)
11. INSTALL GLASS
a. Position the glass so that the reference marks are lined up, and press in gently along the rim.
HINT: Confirm that the moulding is attached to the body panel as shown in the illustration.
b. Hold the back window glass in place securely with a protective tape or equivalent until the adhesive hardens.
NOTE: Take care not to drive the vehicle during the time described in the table.
12. INSPECT FOR LEAK AND REPAIR
a. Conduct a leak test after the hardening time has elapsed.
b. Seal any leak with sealant.
Part No. 08833-00030 or equivalent.
13. INSTALL UPPER BACK TRIM
a. Install the upper back trim.
b. Install the rear seat outer belt LH and RH with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 42 N.m (430 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf)
14. INSTALL ROOM PARTITION BOARD
Install the room partition board with the 7 clips.
15. INSTALL PACKAGE TRAY TRIM
a. Push the package tray trim rearward to install it.
b. Install the 3 clips.
c. CANADA:
Install the 3 CRS tether anchor covers and tether anchor brackets.
Torque: 21 N.m (210 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)
16. w/ High-mounted stop light:
INSTALL HIGH-MOUNTED STOP LIGHT
a. Connect the connector.
b. Push on the both sides of the cover to engage the claws by your hand and install the cover as shown in the illustration.
17. INSTALL ROOF SIDE INNER GARNISH
a. Install the roof side inner garnish and clip.
b. Install the coat hook with the screw.
c. Install the front seat belt shoulder anchor with the bolt.
Torque: 42 N.m (430 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf)
d. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
18. INSTALL QUARTER TRIM PANEL
a. Install the quarter trim panel.
b. Install the rear assist grip with the 2 screws.
c. Install and close the 2 screw covers of the rear assist grip.
d. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
19. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE
a. Install the front door scuff plate to the body.
b. Employ the rear same manner described above to the other side.
20. INSTALL REAR SEATBACK SIDE HINGES
Install the 2 hinges with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 19 N.m (194 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf)
