Identification Procedure

When service of a Corolla Security System is required the steps below should be followed in order to distinguish the factory installed R53000 TVIP from the DIO or PPO (V3) System.

1. Determine the model year from the VIN.

^ If the model year is 1999 - 2002 proceed to step 2.

^ If the model year is 1998 or prior this vehicle has the DIO or PPO installed R53000 TVIP

2. Determine if the vehicle is equipped with the R53000 System Status Monitor and Remote Transmitter as shown in the following illustrations.

^ The Remote Transmitter has two buttons, top and bottom.

^ The Status Monitor has a Toyota label, LED, and microphone.

If the vehicle is equipped with the R53000 System then proceed to step 3.

3. Referring to the Security System Layouts in Figures 3 and 4 of this bulletin, determine the location of the R53000 ECU inside the vehicle without disassembling interior panels.

^ If the R53000 ECU is located under the driver's seat as shown in Figure 3, this vehicle has the DIO or PPO installed R53000 TVIR

^ If the R53000 ECU is NOT located under the driver's seat as shown in Figure 4, this vehicle has the factory installed R53000 TVIP
