TSB REVISION NOTICE:

Introduction
Certain 2000 - 2002 model year Celica vehicles may experience insufficient support from the Back Door Stays. The Back Door Stays have been improved to correct this condition.
Applicable Vehicles
^ 2000 - 2002 model year Celica vehicles.
In order to verify vehicle eligibility, be sure to inspect for eligible lot numbers as detailed in the Parts Information section in this TSB.
Warranty Information
Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Parts Information
Replacement Procedure
1. Confirm the replacement Back Door Stays are the new part by inspecting that the lot number is "FG2" or after.
2. Remove the Back Door Stay.
A. Remove the bolt and Back Door Stay from the back door panel.
B. Remove the 2 bolts and Back Door Stay from the body.
3. Install the improved Back Door Stay.
NOTE:
The rear door stays are specific to each side. Installation of a stay on the wrong side will prevent the stays from properly holding the hatch in the up position. Take care to install the correct stay to the correct side.
A. Install the 2 bolts and Back Door Stay to the body.
Torque: 8.3 N.m (85 kgf.cm, 74 in.lbf)
B. Install the bolt and Back Door Stay to the back door panel.
Torque: 26 N.m (270 kgf.cm, 20 ft.lbf)
NOTE:
^ While working, handle Back Door Stays carefully. Never score or scratch the exposed part of the piston rod, and never allow paint or oil to get on it.
^ Do not turn the piston rod and cylinder with the Back Door Stay fully extended.
4. Repeat procedure for the other side.
5. Confirm operation of the back door.
