Removal









REMOVAL
1. REMOVE ENGINE
2. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD
a. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector.
b. Remove the 3 bolts, 2 nuts and 2 exhaust manifold stays.
c. Remove the 4 bolts and No. 1 heat insulator.
d. Remove the 2 bolts and No. 2 heat insulator.
e. Remove the 3 bolts and No. 1 manifold convertor heat insulator.
f. Remove the bolt and No. 2 manifold convertor heat insulator.
g. Remove the 5 nuts, exhaust manifold and gasket.
3. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY
4. REMOVE INJECTOR
Remove the injectors with the delivery pipe.





5. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the PCV hose.
b. Remove the bolt and brake booster vacuum hose.
c. Disconnect the engine wire harness clamp.
d. Remove the 5 bolts, 2 nuts, intake manifold and gasket.
e. Remove the No. 1 intake manifold insulator.
6. DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE FROM CYLINDER HEAD
a. Disconnect the water temperature sensor connector.
b. Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.
c. Disconnect the oil pressure switch connector.
d. Disconnect the oil control valve connector.
e. Disconnect the noise filter connector.
f. Remove the 2 ground cable bolts.
7. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN
8. REMOVE TIMING SPROCKET AND VVT SPROCKET
9. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV)





10. REMOVE CAMSHAFTS
a. Uniformly loosen and remove the 20 bearing cap bolts in several passes, in the sequence shown in the illustration.
b. Remove the 10 bearing caps, intake camshaft and exhaust camshaft.
c. Remove the camshaft bearings from the No. 1 camshaft bearing cap and intake camshaft No. 1 journal part of the cylinder head.
11. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD





a. Using a 10 mm bi-hexagon wrench, uniformly loosen and remove the 10 cylinder head bolts in several passes, in the sequence shown in the illustration.

NOTICE: Removing the bolts in an incorrect order will result in warpage or cracking in the head.

b. Remove the 10 plate washers.





c. Using a screwdriver, pry between the cylinder head and cylinder block, and remove the cylinder head.

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the cylinder head and cylinder block.

12. REMOVE CAM TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE
Remove the bolt and cam timing oil control valve.
