Oil Pump: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. DRAIN ENGINE OIL
2. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN COVER

3. REMOVE OIL PUMP
a. Remove the 2 bolts, 3 screws and oil pump cover from the timing chain cover.
b. Remove the drive and driven rotors.

DISASSEMBLY
REMOVE RELIEF VALVE
Remove the plug, spring and relief valve.

INSPECTION

1. INSPECT RELIEF VALVE
Coat the valve with engine oil and check that it falls smoothly into the valve hole by its own weight. If it does not, replace the relief valve. If necessary, replace the oil pump assembly.

2. INSPECT ROTOR SIDE CLEARANCE
Using a feeler gauge and precision straight edge, measure the clearance between the rotors and precision straight edge.
Standard side clearance: 0.03 - 0.09 mm (0.0012 - 0.0035 inch)
Maximum side clearance: 0.15 mm (0.0059 inch)
If the side clearance is greater than maximum, replace the rotors as a set. If necessary, replace the oil pump assembly.

3. INSPECT ROTOR TIP CLEARANCE
Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the drive and driven rotor tips.
Standard tip clearance: 0.060 - 0.180 mm (0.0024 - 0.0071 inch)
Maximum tip clearance: 0.28 mm (0.0110 inch)
If the tip clearance is greater than maximum, replace the rotors as a set.

4. INSPECT ROTOR BODY CLEARANCE
Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the driven rotor and body.
Standard body clearance: 0.250 - 0.325 mm (0.00984 - 0.01280 inch)
Maximum body clearance: 0.425 mm (0.01673 inch)
If the body clearance is greater than maximum, replace the rotors as a set. If necessary, replace the oil pump assembly.

REASSEMBLY
INSTALL RELIEF VALVE
Insert the relief valve and spring into the pump body hole, and install the plug.
Torque: 24 Nm (245 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.)

INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL OIL PUMP

a. Place the drive and driven rotors into timing chain cover with the marks facing the oil pump cover side.

b. Install the oil pump cover to the timing chain cover with the 2 bolts and 3 screws.
Torque:
Bolt 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.)
Screw 11 Nm (110 kgf-cm, 8 ft. lbs.)
2. INSTALL TIMING CHAIN COVER
3. FILL WITH ENGINE OIL
4. CHECK FOR LEAKS
