Removal and Installation






1. Remove fan shroud set bolt.
Remove the 5 bolts.





2. Remove upper console panel, shift lever boot retainer and shift and select lever boots No.1 and No.2.
a. Remove the shift lever knob.
b. Using a screwdriver, pry out the upper console panel.





c. Remove the 4 bolts and boot retainer.
d. Remove the shift and select lever boots No.1 and No.2.
3. Remove transmission shift lever 4 set bolts.
Torque to: 7.8 N.m (69 inch lbs.)
4. Raise vehicle.

NOTICE: Make sure that the vehicle is securely supported.





5. Drain transmission oil.
Oil grade: API GL-4 or GL-5
Viscosity: SAE 75W-90
Capacity: 2.6 liters (2.7 US Qts)
Torque to: 37 N.m (27 ft. lbs.)
6. Remove engine under cover.





7. Remove exhaust front pipe and pipe support bracket.
a. Remove the 2 nuts, oxygen sensor and gasket.
Torque to: 20 N.m (14 ft. lbs.)
b. Remove the 2 bolts, nuts and gasket.
Torque to: 58 N.m (43 ft. lbs.)
c. Remove the 2 bolts and pipe support bracket from the clutch housing.
Torque to: 37 N.m (27 ft. lbs.)





d. Remove the 2 bolts, nuts and gasket.
Torque to: 58 N.m (43 ft. lbs.)
e. Remove the exhaust front pipe.





8. Remove exhaust center pipe.
a. Remove the 4 nuts and 2 gaskets.
Torque to: 19 N.m (14 ft. lbs.)
b. Disconnect the exhaust center pipe from the 2 rings.
c. Remove the exhaust center pipe.
9. Remove heat insulator.
Remove the 4 nuts and heat insulator.
Torque to: 5.4 N.m (48 inch lbs.)
10. Remove crossmember brace.
Remove the 6 bolts and crossmember brace.
Torque to: 13 N.m (9 ft. lbs.)
11. Remove propeller shaft.





12. Remove transmission shift lever.
a. Remove the bolt and nut.
Torque to: 19 N.m (14 ft. lbs.)
b. Remove the transmission shift lever, inside the vehicle.
13. Remove clutch release cylinder and ground cable.
a. Remove the 2 bolts and clutch release cylinder.
Torque to: 12 N.m (9 ft. lbs.)





b. Remove the bolt, ground cable and flexible hose bracket.
Torque to: 37 N.m (27 ft. lbs.)
14. Remove starter.
a. Remove the nut and disconnect the starter wire.
b. Disconnect the starter wire connector.
c. Remove the 2 bolts and starter.
Torque to: 39 N.m (29 ft. lbs.)
15. Disconnect back-up light switch and vehicle speed sensor connectors.





16. Remove 3 transmission mounting bolts.
Torque:
12 mm bolt: 72 N.m (53 ft. lbs.)
10 mm bolt: 37 N.m (27 ft. lbs.)
17. Jack up transmission slightly.
Using a transmission jack, support the transmission.





18. Remove rear engine mounting member.
Remove the 4 bolts, nuts and member.
Torque:
Nut: 13 N.m (10 ft. lbs.)
Bolt: 25 N.m (19 ft. lbs.)
19. Remove engine rear mounting.
Remove the 4 bolts and engine rear mounting from the transmission.
Torque to: 25 N.m (18 ft. lbs.)





20. Remove transmission.
a. Remove the 3 remaining transmission mounting bolts.
Torque 12 mm bolt to: 72 N.m (53 ft. lbs.)
b. Lower the engine rear side and remove the transmission from the engine.
21. Reverse procedure to install.

HINT: After installation, do the road test.
