Timing Belt Removal

Components For Timing Belt Removal:

REMOVAL
1. Remove radiator assembly.

2. Remove drive belt, fan, fluid coupling assembly and water pump pulley.

3. Using variable pin wrench Special Service Tool (SST) No, 09960-10010 or equivalent, remove the Power Steering (PS) pump pulley nut and pulley, then the three bolts, plate washer and front bracket.

4. Remove No.3 Timing Belt Cover:
- Remove the oil filler cap.
- Then using a five mm hexagon wrench, remove the ten bolts and belt cover.

5. Remove No.2 Timing Belt Cover:
- Using a five mm hexagon wrench, remove the three timing belt bolts, then the cover and gasket.

6. Remove the three drive belt tensioner bolt, then the tensioner.

7. Set No.1 cylinder to TDC/compression as follows:

(a) Turn the crankshaft pulley, and align its groove with timing mark "0" of the No.1 timing belt cover.

NOTE: Always turn the crankshaft clockwise.

(b) Check that the timing marks of the camshaft timing pulleys are aligned with the timing marks of the No.4 timing belt cover.
- If not, turn the crankshaft 1 revolution (360°).

8. Remove timing belt from camshaft timing pulleys as follows:

NOTE: When re-using timing belt, place matchmarks on the timing belt and camshaft timing pulleys as shown in the illustration.

(a) Alternately loosen the two bolts, and remove them, the tensioner and dust boot.

(b) Disconnect the timing belt from the camshaft timing pulleys.

9. Using SST variable pin wrench, remove camshaft timing pulley bolts, then remove the two timing pulleys.

10. On models with Automatic Transmission (A/T), remove the two bolts and hose clamps, and disconnect oil cooler tubes.

11. Remove crankshaft pulley as follows:

(a) Using companion flange holder SST No. 09330-00021, or equivalent, loosen the pulley bolt.
(b) Remove the pulley bolt.

(c) Using pulley set SST No. 09950-50010, or equivalent, remove the pulley

12. Remove the five No.1 timing belt cover bolts, then the cover and gasket.

13. Remove timing belt guide.

14. Remove timing belt.

NOTE: When re-using timing belt, draw an arrow on the timing belt in the direction of engine revolution, and place matchmarks on the timing belt and crankshaft timing pulley.

16. Using a ten mm hexagon wrench, remove the idler pulley pivot bolt, plate washer and then the pulley.

17. Remove crankshaft timing pulley as follows:

(a) Remove the bolt and timing belt plate.
(b) Remove the crankshaft timing pulley.

NOTE:
^ If the pulley cannot be removed by hand, use SST puller set to remove the crankshaft timing pulley.
^ Do not scratch the sensor part the crankshaft timing pulley.
