Speed Sensor Signal and Deceleration Sensor Check
SPEED & DECELERATION SENSOR SIGNAL CHECKUsing ABS Warning Light
1. Turn the Ignition Switch OFF.
2. Using Special Service Tool (SST) No. 09843-18020, or equivalent, connect terminals Ts and E1 of DLC1.
3. Start the engine.

4. Ensure the ABS Warning Light blinks.
NOTE:
- If the ABS Warning Light does not blink, inspect the ABS Warning Light circuit. ABS Warning Light Circuit
- If the ABS Warning Light is always on, inspect Deceleration Sensor as outlined in this procedure.
5. Drive vehicle faster than 45 km/h (28 mph) for several seconds.
6. Stop the vehicle.
7. Using SST No. 09843-18020, or equivalent, connect terminals Tc and E1 of Data Link Connector (DLC)1.
8. Read the number of blinks of the ABS Warning Light.
- If every sensor is normal, a normal code is output (A cycle of 0.25 sec. ON and 0.25 sec. OFF is repeated). Record any abnormal codes. Testing and Inspection
- If 2 or more malfunctions are indicated at the same time, the lowest numbered code will be displayed 1st.
9. After doing the check, disconnect terminals Ts and E1, Tc and E1 of DLC1, and turn Ignition Switch OFF.
Using Scan Tool
1. Perform Steps 1 - 6 under "Using ABS Warning Light".
2. Hook up the TOYOTA hand-held tester, or equivalent, to the DLC2.
3. Read the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) by following the prompts on the tester screen. Please refer to the tester operator's manual for further details.
DTC Of Speed Sensor Check Function:
DECELERATION SENSOR OUTPUT INSPECTION
CAUTION: While checking the Deceleration Sensor, the Anti-Lock Brake System does not work and the brakes are reduced to conventional base brake operation.
1. Connect 3 dry 1.5V batteries in series.
Connecting VGS-GGND Terminals To Batteries:
2. Connect VGS terminal to the battery positive (+) terminal and GGND terminal to the battery negative (-) terminal, then apply about 4.5 Volts between VGS-GGND terminals.
CAUTION: Do not apply voltage of 6 Volts or more to terminals VGS and GGND.
3. Check the output of GL1 and GL2 terminals.
NOTE: If the sensor is tilted too much, it may show the wrong value.
CAUTION:
- If dropped, the sensor should be replaced with a new one.
- The sensor removed from the vehicle should not be placed upside down.
