Attachment

1. On models with Automatic Transmission (A/T), check torque converter clutch installation as follows:






(a) Using calipers and straight edge, measure from the installed surface of the torque converter clutch to the front surface of the transmission.
- Correct distance: Less than 0.1 mm (0.004 inch).
(b) If the distance is not as specified, check for an improper installation.
2. On models with Manual Transmission (M/T), install clutch disc and cover as follows:






(a) Insert pilot tool Special Service Tool (SST) No. 09301-00110, or equivalent, in the clutch disc, and then set them and the cover in position.
(b) Align the matchmarks on the clutch cover and flywheel.
(c) Tighten the bolts evenly and gradually while pushing in on SST pilot tool.
- Make several passes around the cover until it is snug.






(d) Tighten the bolts on the clutch cover in the order shown to: 19 Nm (195 kg. cm, 14 ft. lbs.).
3. On all models, assemble engine and transmission as follows:
(a) On models with M/T, align the input spline with the clutch disc and install the transmission to the engine.
(b) On all models, align the two knock pins on the cylinder block with the pin holes of the clutch housing.






(c) Install the transmission with the six bolts and tighten as follows:
- Bolts with 14 mm head: 39 Nm (400 kg. cm., 29 ft. lbs.).
- Bolts with 17 mm head: 72 Nm (730 kg. cm., 43 ft. lbs.).
4. On models with A/T, install torque converter clutch mounting bolts as follows:






(a) First, install the gray bolt, then install five black bolts while turning the crankshaft to gain access.
(b) Tighten the bolts evenly to: 33 Nm (340 kg. cm., 25 ft. lbs.).
(c) Install the hole plug.
5. Connect throttle cable.
6. Install oil cooler tubes for transmission as follows:
(a) Temporarily install the two oil cooler tubes, two hose clamps and tube clamp with three clamp bolts.
(b) Connect the two oil cooler tubes to the unions on transmission, tighten the union nuts to: 34 Nm (350 kg. cm., 25 ft. lbs.).
(c) Tighten the three clamp bolts.
7. On all models, install the starter.
8. Connect engine wiring to transmission.
9. On models with A/T, install oil dipstick and guide for transmission as follows:
(a) Install a new O-ring to the dipstick guide.
(b) Apply soapy water to the O-ring.
(c) Connect the dipstick guide end to the dipstick tube of the oil pan.
(d) Install the dipstick guide with the bolt.
(e) Install the dipstick.
