Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair
PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH REMOVAL1. Remove No.2 engine under cover.
2. Disconnect control cable from control shaft lever.
3. Disconnect park/neutral position switch connector.
4. Remove park/neutral position switch.
a. Remove the nut and control shaft lever.
b. Pry off the lock plate and remove the control valve shaft nut.
c. Remove the 2 bolts and pull out the park/neutral position switch.
PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH INSTALLATION
1. Install park/neutral position switch.
a. Install the park/neutral position switch to the control shaft.
b. Install a new lock plate and tighten the nut.
Torque: 6.4 N.m (61 inch lbs.).
c. Stake the nut with the lock plate.
d. Temporarily install the control shaft lever.
e. Turn the lever counterclockwise until it stops, then turn it clockwise 2 notches.
f. Remove the control shaft lever.
g. Adjust the park/neutral position switch.
HINT: Align the groove and neutral basic line.
h. Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 5.4 N.m (48 inch lbs.).
2. Install control shaft lever.
3. Connect control cable to control shift lever.
Torque: 13 N.m (10 ft. lbs.).
4. Install No.2 engine under cover.
