Installation









1. Install oil pump.
(a) Place a new gasket on the cylinder block.





(b) Engage the spline teeth of the oil pump drive rotor with the large teeth of the crankshaft, and slide the oil pump.





(c) Install the oil pump with the 7 bolts.
Torque: 21 Nm (16 ft. lbs.)
Bolt length:
Long bolt: 35 mm (1.38 inch)
Other bolt: 25 mm (0.98 inch)
2. Install No. 1 oil pan.
(a) Remove any old packing Formed In Place Gasket (FIPG) material and be careful not to drop any oil on the contact surfaces of the No. 1 oil pan and cylinder block.
^ Using a razor blade and gasket scraper, remove all the old packing FIPG material from the gasket surfaces and sealing groove.
^ Thoroughly clean all components to remove all the loose material.
^ Using a non-residue solvent, clean both sealing surfaces.

CAUTION: Do not use a solvent, which will affect the painted surfaces.





(b) Apply seal packing to the oil pan as shown in the illustration.
Seal packing: Part No. 08826 - 00080 or equivalent.
^ Install a nozzle that has been cut to a 3 - 5 mm (0.12 - 0.20 inch) opening.
^ Parts must be assembled within 5 minutes of application. Otherwise the material must be removed and reapplied.
^ Immediately remove nozzle from the tube and reinstall cap.





(c) Using a 5mm hexagon wrench, install the No. 1 oil pan with new 14 bolts. Torque the bolts.
Torque:
Bolt A: 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.)
(d) Install the 6 bolts. Torque the bolts.
Torque:
Bolt B: 7.8 Nm (69 inch lbs.)
(e) Install and torque the 3 bolts holding the No. 1 oil pan to the transaxle.
Torque: 22.5 Nm (17 ft. lbs.)
3. Install oil strainer.
Install a new gasket and the oil strainer with the 3 nuts.
Torque: 9.3 Nm (82 inch lbs.)
4. Install oil pan baffle plate.
Install the baffle plate with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque: 7.8 Nm (69 inch lbs.)
5. Install No. 2 oil pan.
(a) Remove any old packing FIPG material and be careful not to drop any oil on the contact surfaces of the No. 2 oil pan and cylinder block.
^ Using a razor blade and gasket scraper, remove all the old packing FIPG material from the gasket surfaces and sealing groove.
^ Thoroughly clean all components to remove all the loose material.
^ Using a non-residue solvent, clean both sealing surfaces.

(b) Apply seal packing to the oil pan as shown in the illustration.

(c) Install the No. 2 oil pan with the 13 bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque: 4.9 Nm (43 inch lbs.)
6. Install timing belt.
7. Remove engine sling device.
8. Remove engine hanger.
9. Install rear engine mounting insulator and engine mounting center member.
10. Install front exhaust pipe support bracket.
11. w/ A/C: Connect A/C pressure pipe to engine mounting center member clamp.
12. A/T: Connect transaxle control cable to engine mounting center member.
13. Install front exhaust pipe.
14. Fill with engine oil
15. Start engine and check for oil leaks.
16. Recheck engine oil level.
17. Install engine under covers.
18. Install RH front wheel
19. Install hood.
