Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. WARM UP ENGINE
Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.





2. CONNECT TOYOTA HAND-HELD TESTER OR OBD II SCAN TOOL
- Connect the TOYOTA hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool to the DLC3.

Please refer to the TOYOTA hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool operators manual for further details.





3. INSPECT AND ADJUST IGNITION TIMING
- Using SST, connect terminals TE1 and E1 of the data link connector 1. SST 09843-18020

HINT: After engine rpm is kept at 1,000 - 1,500 rpm for 5 seconds, check that it returns to idle speed.





- Using a timing light, check the ignition timing.

Ignition timing: 10 ° BTDC @ idle
(Transmission in neutral position)






- Loosen the 2 hold-down bolts, and adjust by turning the IIA.
- Tighten the 2 hold-down bolts, and recheck the ignition timing.

Torque: 20 N.m (200 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf)





- Remove the SST from the data link connector 1. SST 09843-18020





4. FURTHER CHECK IGNITION TIMING

Ignition timing: 5 °-15 ° BTDC @ idle
(Transmission in neutral position)


HINT: The timing mark moves in a range between 5 ° and 15 °.

5. DISCONNECT TOYOTA HAND-HELD TESTER OR OBD II SCAN TOOL, AND TIMING LIGHT
