- Connect the TOYOTA hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool to the DLC3.
Please refer to the TOYOTA hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool operators manual for further details.
3. INSPECT AND ADJUST IGNITION TIMING
- Using SST, connect terminals TE1 and E1 of the data link connector 1. SST 09843-18020
HINT: After engine rpm is kept at 1,000 - 1,500 rpm for 5 seconds, check that it returns to idle speed.

Ignition timing: 10 ° BTDC @ idle
(Transmission in neutral position)
- Loosen the 2 hold-down bolts, and adjust by turning the IIA.
- Tighten the 2 hold-down bolts, and recheck the ignition timing.
Torque: 20 N.m (200 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf)
- Remove the SST from the data link connector 1. SST 09843-18020
4. FURTHER CHECK IGNITION TIMING
Ignition timing: 5 °-15 ° BTDC @ idle
(Transmission in neutral position)
HINT: The timing mark moves in a range between 5 ° and 15 °.
5. DISCONNECT TOYOTA HAND-HELD TESTER OR OBD II SCAN TOOL, AND TIMING LIGHT
