Removal and Installation

Components:






TRANSAXLE REMOVAL




1. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE ASSEMBLY WITH AIR HOSE

2. w/ Cruise control:
REMOVE CRUISE CONTROL ACTUATOR

a. Remove the cruise control actuator cover.
b. Disconnect the connector.
c. Remove the 3 nuts and cruise control actuator with the bracket.




3. REMOVE CLUTCH RELEASE CYLINDER AND LINE
a. Remove the 2 bolts and release cylinder.

Torque: 13 N.m (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf)

b. Remove the release cylinder line clamp 2 set bolts.




4. REMOVE STARTER
a. Disconnect the connector and wire from the starter.
b. Remove the 2 bolts and starter.

Torque: 39 N.m (400 kgf.cm, 29 ft-lbf)

5. DISCONNECT BACK-UP LIGHT SWITCH AND VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR CONNECTOR
6. REMOVE GROUND CABLES
Remove the bolt and ground cables from the trans-axle.




7. DISCONNECT WIRES CLAMP
8. DISCONNECT CONTROL CABLES
a. Remove the 2 clips and washers.
b. Remove the 2 clips from the cables.




9. REMOVE 3 TRANSAXLE MOUNTING BOLTS OF TRANSAXLE UPPER SIDE




10. INSTALL ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE
11. TIE STEERING GEAR HOUSING TO ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE BY CORD OR EQUIVALENT
12. REMOVE FRONT WHEELS

Torque: 103 N.m (1.050 kgf.cm, 76 ft-lbf)

13. RAISE VEHICLE

NOTE: Be sure the vehicle is securely supported.

14. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVERS
15. DRAIN TRANSAXLE OIL

Oil grade: API GL-4 or GL-5
Viscosity: SAE 75 W-90
Capacity: 2.6 liters (2.7 US qts. 2.3 Imp. qts)

16. REMOVE RH AND LH DRIVE SHAFTS Service and Repair




17. DISCONNECT STEERING GEAR HOUSING FROM FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER
a. Remove the 4 bolts and disconnect stabilizer bar bracket from the front suspension member.

Torque: 19 N.m (195 kgf.cm, 14 ft-lbf)

b. Remove the steering gear housing 2 set bolts and nuts.

Torque: 181 N.m (1.850 kgf.cm, 134 ft-lbf)

c. Disconnect the steering gear housing from the suspension member and suspend it securely.




18. REMOVE EXHAUST FRONT PIPE
a. Remove the 3 nuts from the exhaust manifold.

Torque: 62 N.m (630 kgf-cm, 46 ft-lbf)

b. Remove the 2 bolts and nuts.

Torque: 56 N.m (570 kgf-cm, 41 ft-lbf)

c. Remove the 2 bolts and exhaust front pipe.
19. REMOVE STIFFENER PLATE
Remove the 3 bolts and stiffener plate.

Torque: 37 N.m (380 kgf-cm, 27 ft-lbf)




20. DISCONNECT ENGINE FRONT MOUNTING FROM SUSPENSION MEMBER
Remove the 2 bolts and nut.

Torque:

TMC made: 80 N.m (820 kgf-cm, 59 ft-lbf)
TMM made: 66 N.m (670 kgf-cm, 48 ft-lbf)




21. DISCONNECT ENGINE REAR MOUNTING FROM FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER
a. Remove the 2 grommets.
b. Remove the 3 nuts.

Torque: 66 N.m (670 kgf-cm, 48 ft-lbf)




22. REMOVE ENGINE LEFT MOUNTING
a. Raise the transaxle and engine slightly with a jack and wooden block in between.
b. Remove the 2 grommets and nuts.

Torque: 80 N.m (820 kgf-cm, 59 ft-lbf)

c. Remove the 3 bolts and engine left mounting.

Torque: 64 N.m (650 kgf-cm, 47 ft-lbf)

23. REMOVE 2 BOLTS AND STEERING COOLER PIPE CLAMPS FROM SUSPENSION MEMBER

Torque: 10 N.m (100 kgf-cm, 7 ft-lbf)

24. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER




a. Remove the 2 fender liner set screws.




b. Remove the 2 bolts and 4 nuts.

Torque:
Bolt A: 32 N.m (330 kgf.cm, 24 ft-lbf)
Nut B: 36 N.m (370 kgf-cm, 27 ft-lbf)

c. Remove the 4 bolts.

Torque:
Bolt C: 181 N.m (1,850 kgf-cm, 134 ft-lbf)

d. Remove the 2 front lower braces, rear lower braces and front suspension member.




25. REMOVE TRANSAXLE LOWER SIDE MOUNTING BOLTS AND REAR END PLATE
Remove the 4 bolts and rear end plate.

Torque: 25 N.m (250 kgf-cm, 18 ft-lbf)




26. REMOVE TRANSAXLE
a. Remove the transaxle mounting bolts from the engine.

Torque:
Bolt A: 64 N.m (650 kgf-cm, 47 ft-lbf)
Bolt B: 46 N.m (470 kgf-cm, 34 ft-lbf)
Bolt C: 25 N.m (250 kgf-cm, 18 ft-lbf)

b. Lower the engine left side and remove the transaxle from the engine.

TRANSAXLE INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

HINT: After installation. check and inspect items as follows.

- Front wheel alignment.
- Road test the vehicle.
