On-Vehicle Inspection

ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. CHECK FUEL PUMP OPERATION
(a) Remove the fuse cover on the instrument panel.



(b) Connect the Toyota hand-held tester to the DLC3.
(c) Turn the ignition switch ON and Toyota hand-held tester main switch ON.
NOTICE: Do not start the engine.
(d) Select the active test mode on the Toyota hand-held tester.
(e) Please refer to the Toyota hand - held tester operator's manual for further details.



(f) If you have no Toyota hand-held tester, connect a test wire from the fuel pump connector terminal 4 to the positive (+) battery terminal and another test wire from the fuel pump connector terminal 5 to the negative (-) battery terminal.



(g) Check that there is pressure in the fuel inlet hose from the fuel filter.
HINT: If there is fuel pressure, you will hear the sound of fuel flowing.

If there is no pressure, check these parts:
- Fusible link
- Fuses {AM2 (30A), EFI (15A), IGN (7.5A)}
- EFI main relay
- Circuit opening relay
- Fuel pump
- ECM
- Wiring connections

(h) Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
(i) Disconnect the Toyota hand-held tester from the DLC3 and reinstall the fuse cover on the instrument panel.
(j) If you don't have a Toyota hand-held tester, disconnect the test wires from the battery first, then the fuel pump connector.
- Reconnect fuel pump connector.
