Component Tests and General Diagnostics

KNOCK SENSORS INSPECTION
1. REMOVE AIR CLEANER HOSE
2. REMOVE AIR INTAKE CHAMBER ASSEMBLY
3. DISCONNECT INJECTOR CONNECTORS
4. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD ASSEMBLY
- Disconnect the heater hose from the intake manifold.



- Remove the 9 bolts, 2 nuts, 2 plate washers and intake manifold assembly.

5. REMOVE RH ENGINE MOUNTING STAY AND WATER OUTLET
- Disconnect these hoses and connectors:



(1) Radiator inlet hose
(2) Radiator reservoir hose
(3) ECT sensor connector
(4) ECT switch connector
(5) Ground strap connector




- Remove the 3 bolts and RH mounting stay.
- Remove the wire band.
- Disconnect the water bypass hose from the inlet housing.



- Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts, 2 plate washers and water outlet.
- Remove the 2 gaskets.

6. REMOVE KNOCK SENSORS
- Disconnect the knock sensor connector.



- Using SST, remove the knock sensor.

7. INSPECT KNOCK SENSORS



- Using an ohmmeter, check that there is no continuity between the terminal and body.
- If there is continuity, replace the sensor.

8. REINSTALL KNOCK SENSORS
- Using SST, install the knock sensor.
SST 09817-16011

Torque: 39 Nm (400 kgf.cm, 29 ft.lb)

- Connect the knock sensor connector.

9. REINSTALL WATER OUTLET AND RH ENGINE MOUNTING STAY
- Install 2 new gaskets on the cylinder head.



- Install the water outlet with the 2 bolts, 2 plate washers and 2 nuts.

Torque: 15 Nm (150 kgf.cm, 11 ft.lb)

NOTICE: Do not scratch the seal surface of the water outlet with the stud bolt.

- Connect the water bypass hose to the inlet housing.
- Install the wire band.



- Install the RH mounting Stay with the 3 bolts.

Torque: 31.4 Nm (320 kgf.cm, 23 ft.lb)

- Connect these hoses and connectors:



(1) Radiator inlet hose
(2) Radiator reservoir hose
(3) ECT sensor connector
(4) ECT switch connector
(5) Ground strap connector

10. REINSTALL INTAKE MANIFOLD ASSEMBLY



- Install the intake manifold assembly with the 9 bolts, 2 plate washers and 2 nuts.

Torque: 15 Nm (150 kgf.cm, 11 ft.lb)

- Connect the heater hose to the intake manifold.

11. RECONNECT INJECTOR CONNECTORS
12. RETIGHTEN WATER OUTLET MOUNTING BOLTS AND NUTS

Torque: 15 Nm (150 kgf.cm, 11 ft.lb)

13. REINSTALL AIR INTAKE CHAMBER ASSEMBLY
14. REINSTALL AIR CLEANER HOSE
