IGNITION TIMING INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT1. WARM UP ENGINE.
- Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.
2. CONNECT TACHOMETER AND TIMING LIGHT.
- Connect a timing light to the ignition cable for cylinder number one.
Terminals In DLC1:
- Connect the tester probe to terminal IG- of the DLC1.
NOTICE:
^ Do not allow the tachometer terminal (IG-) to touch ground as this could result in damage to the igniter or ignition coil.
^ Some tachometers are not compatible with this ignition system. Confirm the compatibility of your unit prior to use.
3. INSPECT AND ADJUST IGNITION TIMING.
- Using a jumper wire or SST, connect terminals TE1 and E1 of the DLC1.
- After engine speed is kept at 1,000 - 1,300 rpm for 5 seconds, check that it returns to idle speed.
- Using a timing light, check the ignition timing.
Ignition timing: ... 10° BTDC @ idle
(w/ Cooling tan OFF and transmission in neutral position)
- Loosen the 2 bolts, and adjust by turning the distributor.
- Tighten the bolts, and recheck the ignition timing.
Torque: 19.5 Nm (195 kgf.cm; 14 ft.lb)
4. FURTHER CHECK IGNITION TIMING.
- Remove the jumper from the DLC1.
- Check that the timing mark moves in a range between 6° and 18°.
Ignition timing: 6° - 18° BTDC @ idle
(w/ Cooling tan OFF and transmission in neutral position)
5. DISCONNECT TACHOMETER AND TIMING LIGHT.
