Fuel Pressure: Testing and Inspection

FUEL PRESSURE TEST
(a) Check that battery voltage is above 11.0 volts.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery.

(c) Remove the union bolt and 2 gaskets, and disconnect the fuel inlet hose from the fuel filter outlet.

CAUTION: Loosen the union bolt slowly.

(d) Install the fuel inlet hose and pressure gauge (SST# 09268-45012) to the fuel filter outlet with 3 gaskets and the union bolt.

Torque: 29 Nm (22 ft.lb)

(e) Wipe off any splattered gasoline.
(f) Reconnect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery.
(g) Using a jumper wire (or SST# 09843-18020), connect terminals +B and FP of the data link connector, DLC1.
(h) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(i) Measure the fuel pressure.

Fuel pressure: 281 - 287 kPa (40.8 - 41.7 psi)

- If pressure is high, replace the fuel pressure regulator.
- If pressure is low, check these parts:
- Fuel hoses and connection
- Fuel pump
- Fuel filter
- Fuel pressure regulator

(j) Remove the jumper from the DLC1.
(k) Start the engine.

(m) Disconnect the vacuum sensing hose from the fuel pressure regulator, and plug the hose end.
(l) Measure the fuel pressure at idle.

Fuel pressure: 281 - 287 kPa (40.8 - 41.7 psi)

(m) Reconnect the vacuum sensing hose to the fuel pressure regulator.
(n) Measure the fuel pressure at idle.

Fuel pressure: 226 - 265 kPa (33 - 37 psi)

- If pressure is not as specified, check the vacuum sensing hose and fuel pressure regulator.

(o) Stop the engine. Wait 5 minutes and check residual fuel pressure.

Fuel pressure: 147 kPa (21 psi) or more

- If pressure is not as specified, check the fuel pump, pressure regulator and/or injector.
(p) After checking fuel pressure, disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery and carefully remove the gauge (SST 09268-45012) to prevent gasoline from spraying.
(q) Connect the fuel inlet hose to the fuel filter with 2 new gaskets and the union bolt.

Torque: 29 Nm (22 ft.lb)

(r) Check for fuel leaks.
Refer to "Testing For Leaks" under System Diagnosis.
