Component Tests and General Diagnostics

KNOCK SENSORS INSPECTION



1. REMOVE AIR INTAKE CHAMBER ASSEMBLY.



2. DISCONNECT INJECTOR CONNECTORS.
3. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD ASSEMBLY.
- Disconnect the heater hose from the intake manifold.



- Remove the 9 bolts, 2 nuts, 2 plate washers and intake manifold assembly.

4. REMOVE RH ENGINE MOUNTING STAY AND WATER OUTLET.



- Disconnect these hoses and connectors:
- Radiator inlet hose
- Engine coolant reservoir hose
- ECT sensor connector
- ECT switch connector
- Ground strap connector



- Remove the 3 bolts and RH mounting stay.
- Remove the wire band.
- Disconnect the water bypass hose from the inlet housing.



- Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts, 2 plate washers and water outlet.
- Remove the 2 gaskets.

5. REMOVE KNOCK SENSORS.
- Disconnect the knock sensor connector.



- Using SST, remove the knock sensor. (SST 09817-16011)

6. INSPECT KNOCK SENSORS.



Using an ohmmeter, check that there is no continuity between the terminal and body.
If there is continuity, replace the sensor.

7. REINSTALL KNOCK SENSORS.
- Using SST, install the knock sensor. (SST 09817-16011)

Torque: 39 Nm (400 kgf.cm; 29 ft.lb)

- Connect the knock sensor connector.

8. REINSTALL WATER OUTLET AND RH ENGINE MOUNTING STAY.
- Install 2 new gaskets on the cylinder head.



- Install the water outlet with the the 2 bolts, 2 plate washers and 2 nuts.

Torque: 15 Nm (150 kgf.cm; 11 ft.lb)

NOTICE: Do not scratch the seal surface of the water outlet with the stud bolt.

- Connect the water bypass hose to the inlet housing.
- Install the wire band.
- Install the RH mounting stay with the 3 bolts.

Torque: 31.4 Nm (320 kgf.cm; 23 ft.lb)




- Connect these hoses and connectors:
- Radiator inlet hose
- Engine coolant reservoir hose
- ECT sensor connector
- ECT switch connector
- Ground strap connector

9. REINSTALL INTAKE MANIFOLD ASSEMBLY.



- Install the intake manifold assembly with the 9 bolts, 2 plate washers and 2 nuts.

Torque: 15 Nm (150 kgf.cm; 11 ft.lb)

- Connect the heater hose to the intake manifold.
10. RECONNECT INJECTOR CONNECTORS.
11. RETIGHTEN WATER OUTLET MOUNTING BOLTS AND NUTS.

Torque: 15 Nm (150 kgf.cm; 11 ft.lb)

12. REINSTALL AIR INTAKE CHAMBER ASSEMBLY.
