Ignition Cable: Testing and Inspection
HIGH-TENSION CORDS INSPECTION1. Disconnect high-tension cords from spark plugs. Disconnect the cords at the rubber boot. Do not pull on the cords.
Removing Spark Plug Cables:
NOTE: Pulling on or bending the cords may damage the conductor inside.
2. Disconnect high-tension cords from distributor cap.
Removing Spark Plug Wires From Distributor:
a. Using a screwdriver, lift up the lock claw and disconnect the holder from the distributor cap.
Removing Spark Plug Wires From Distributor:
b. Disconnect the high-tension cord at the grommet. Do not pull on the high-tension cords.
NOTE: Pulling on or bending the cords may damage the conductor inside.
3. Inspect high-tension cord resistance. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance.
Spark Plug Cable Testing:
Maximum resistance: 25 kOhms per cord
If the resistance is greater than maximum, replace the high-tension cord.
4. Reconnect high-tension cords to distributor cap.
Removing Spark Plug Wires From Distributor:
a. Install the grommet portion into the terminal hole of the distributor cap.
Installing Spark Plug Wires In Distributor:
b. Align the spline of the distributor cap with the spline of the holder, and slide on the holder.
Installing Spark Plug Wires In Distributor:
NOTE: Check that the holder is correctly installed to the grommet and distributor cap as shown in the illustration.
Installing Spark Plug Wires In Distributor:
c. Check that the lock claw of the holder is engaged by lightly pulling the holder.
Position Of Spark Plug Cables In Distributor Cap:
d. Check that the high-tension cords are connected as shown in the illustration.
5. Reconnect high-tension cords to spark plugs.
Spark Plug Cable Routing:
Secure the high-tension cords with the clamps as shown in the illustration.
