Fuel Pressure: Testing and Inspection
INSPECT FUEL PRESSURE
a. Check that battery voltage is approximately 12.0 V.
b. Disconnect the Negative (-) terminal cable from the Battery.
c. Put a suitable container or shop rag under the Fuel Filter.
Loosen The Union Bolt Slowly:
d. Remove the union bolt and 2 gaskets, and disconnect the fuel inlet hose from the Fuel Filter outlet.
HINT: Slowly loosen the union bolt.
Always Use 3 New Gaskets:
e. Install the fuel inlet hose and SST (pressure gauge) to the Fuel Filter outlet with 3 new gaskets and the union bolt. (SST 09268-45012)
Torque: 29 Nm (22 ft.lb)
f. Wipe off any splattered gasoline.
g. Reconnect the Negative (-) terminal cable to the Battery.
Jumping B+ To FP Terminals At DLC 1:
h. Using SST, connect terminals +B and FP of the Data Link Connector (DLC) 1. (SST 09843-18020)
i. Turn the Ignition Switch ON.
Fuel Pressure Gauge Attached:
j. Measure the fuel pressure.
Fuel pressure: 281 - 287 kPa (40.8 - 41.7 psi)
If pressure is high, replace the Fuel Pressure Regulator. If pressure is low, check the following parts:
^ Fuel hoses and connection
^ Fuel Pump
^ Fuel Filter
^ Fuel Pressure Regulator
Remove SST From DLC 1:
k. Remove the SST from the Data Link Connector 1. (SST 09843-18020)
l. Start the engine.
m. Disconnect the vacuum sensing hose from the Fuel Pressure Regulator, and plug the hose end.
Disconnect Vacuum Hose From Fuel Pressure Regulator And Plug:
n. Measure the fuel pressure at idle.
Fuel pressure: 281 - 287 kPa (40.8 - 41.7 psi)
o. Reconnect the vacuum sensing hose to the Fuel Pressure Regulator.
Reconnect Vacuum Hose To The Fuel Pressure Regulator:
p. Measure the fuel pressure at idle.
Fuel pressure: 226 - 265 kPa (33 - 37 psi)
If pressure is not as specified, check the vacuum sensing hose and Fuel Pressure Regulator.
q. Stop the engine.Check that the fuel pressure remains 147 kPa (21 psi) or more for 5 minutes after the engine is turned off.
If pressure is not as specified, check the Fuel Pump, Pressure Regulator and Injectors.
r. After checking fuel pressure, disconnect the Negative (-) terminal cable from the Battery and carefully remove the SST to prevent gasoline from splashing. (SST 09268-45012)
Use New Gaskets And Torque Union Bolt To 29 Nm (22 Lb.ft):
s. Connect the fuel inlet hose with 2 new gaskets and the union bolt.
Torque: 29 Nm (22 ft.lb)
t. Reconnect the Negative (-) terminal cable to the Battery.
u. Check for fuel leaks.
