Camshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
PURPOSE
The Camshaft Position Sensor produces an output pulse (G signal) to the Engine Control Module (ECM) one time per Distributor revolution. The ECM uses this signal to determine Top Dead Center position for # 1 cylinder.
OPERATION
Current from the ECM creates a magnetic field in the pick-up coil. When the rotor tooth passes through the magnetic field, the disturbance is detectable by the ECM.
