Fuel Pressure: Testing and Inspection

FUEL PRESSURE TEST
- Check that the battery voltage is above 12 volts.
- Disconnect negative (-) terminal cable from the battery.

- Remove the union bolt and 2 gaskets, and disconnect the fuel inlet hose from the fuel filter outlet.

CAUTION:
- Put a suitable container or shop rag under the fuel filter.
- Loosen the union bolt slowly.

- Install the fuel inlet hose and pressure gauge (SST) to the fuel filter with 3 new gaskets and union bolt (SST).
(SST 09268-45012 - EFI Fuel Pressure Gauge set)

Torque: 29 Nm (22 ft.lb)

- Wipe off any splattered gasoline.

- Using a jumper wire, connect terminals +B and FP of the DLC1.
- Reconnect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery.
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- Measure the fuel pressure.

Fuel pressure: 265 - 304 kPa (38 - 44 psi)

- If pressure is high, replace the fuel pressure regulator.
- If pressure is low, check these parts:
- Fuel hoses and connections.
- Fuel pump.
- Fuel filter.
- Fuel pressure regulator.

- Remove the jumper from the DLC1.
- Start the engine.

- Disconnect the vacuum sensing hose from the fuel pressure regulator and plug the air intake chamber outlet.
- Measure the fuel pressure at idle.

Fuel pressure: 265 - 304 kPa (38 - 44 psi)

- Reconnect the vacuum sensing hose to the fuel pressure regulator.
- Measure the fuel pressure at idle.

Fuel pressure: 206 - 255 kPa (31 - 37 psi)

- If pressure is not as specified, check the vacuum sensing hose and fuel pressure regulator.

- Stop the engine.
- Check that the fuel pressure remains as specified for 5 minutes after the engine stops.

Fuel pressure: 147 kPa (21 psi) or more

- If pressure is not as specified, check the fuel pump, pressure regulator and/or injectors.

- After checking fuel pressure, disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery and carefully remove the pressure gauge to prevent gasoline from spraying.
- Connect the fuel inlet hose to the fuel filter with 2 new gaskets and the union bolt.

Torque: 29 Nm (300 kg.cm, 22 ft.lb)

- Reconnect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery.
- Check for fuel leaks.
- Refer to "Testing For Fuel System Leaks" under System Diagnosis.
- Testing and Inspection
