Fuel Pressure: Testing and Inspection
FUEL PRESSURE TEST- Check that the battery voltage is above 12 volts.
- Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery.
- Remove the union bolt and 2 gaskets, and disconnect the fuel inlet hose from the delivery pipe.
CAUTION:
- Put a suitable container or shop towel under the delivery pipe.
- Slowly loosen the union bolt.
- Install the fuel inlet hose and SST (pressure gauge) to the delivery pipe with 3 gaskets and SST (union bolt).
(SST 09268-45012 - EFI fuel pressure gauge kit)
Torque: 29 Nm (22 ft.lb)
- Wipe off any splattered gasoline.
- Using a jumper wire (or SST 09843-18020), connect terminals +B and FP of the DLC1.
- Reconnect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery.
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- Measure the fuel pressure.
Fuel pressure: 226 - 265 kPa (33 - 38 psi)
- If pressure is high, replace the fuel pressure regulator.
- If pressure is low, check these parts:
- Fuel hoses and connections.
- Fuel pump.
- Fuel filter.
- Fuel pressure regulator.
- Remove the jumper from the DLC1.
- Start the engine.
- Disconnect the vacuum sensing hose from the intake manifold and plug the intake manifold outlet.
- Measure the fuel pressure at idle.
Fuel pressure: 226 - 265 kPa (33 - 38 psi)
- Reconnect the vacuum sensing hose to the intake manifold.
- Measure the fuel pressure at idle.
Fuel pressure: 186 - 216 kPa (27 - 31 psi)
- If pressure is not as specified, check the vacuum sensing hose and fuel pressure regulator.
- Stop the engine.
- Check that the fuel pressure remains as specified for 5 minutes after the engine stops.
Fuel pressure: 147 kPa (21 psi) or more
- If pressure is not as specified, check the fuel pump, pressure regulator and/or injector.
- After checking fuel pressure, disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery and carefully remove the pressure gauge to prevent gasoline from spraying.
- Connect the fuel inlet hose to the delivery pipe with 2 new gaskets and the union bolt.
Torque: 29 Nm (22 ft.lb)
- Reconnect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery.
- Check for fuel leaks.
- Refer to "Testing For Fuel System Leaks" under System Diagnosis.
