Throttle Position Sensor Inspection

THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT TEST

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The throttle position sensor detects the throttle valve opening angle and sends signals to the engine control module (ECM).

WIRING DIAGRAM

Throttle Position Sensor Circuit:

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. Throttle position sensor signal test.

Data Link Connector 1 (DLC1):

(a) Connect a voltmeter between data link connector 1 (DLC1) terminals TT (+) and E1 (-).
(b) Turn ignition switch ON.

Output Voltage Of Data Link Connector 1 (DLC1):

(c) Measure output voltage while slowly depressing the accelerator pedal from fully closed to fully open position.
HINT: Do not depress brake pedal during this test. Voltage will stay at 0 volts if depressed.

OK: Voltage should step from 0 volts to 8 volts in 1 volt steps.

^ OK: Proceed to next circuit inspection shown in matrix chart for electronically controlled circuits under Diagnosis By Symptom.
Matrix Chart of Problem Symptoms

^ NG: Proceed to Step 2.

2. Go to throttle position sensor inspection (DTC 41) procedures under "Computers and Control Systems".

^ OK: Proceed to Step 3
^ NG: Replace throttle position sensor

3. Check harness and connectors between ECM and throttle position sensor.

^ OK: Replace ECM.
^ NG: Repair or replace harness or connector.
