Park/Neutral Position Switch Circuit
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTIONThe park / neutral position switch detects the shift lever position and sends signals to the engine control module (ECM). The ECM receives signals (NSW, 2 and L) from the park / neutral position switch. When the signal is not sent to the ECM from the park / neutral position switch, the ECM judges that the shift lever is in the "D" position.

Park/Neutral Position Switch Circuit:
INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. Check voltage between terminals NSW, 2, L of ECM connector and body ground.
a. Turn ignition switch ON.
b. Measure voltage between terminals NSW, 2, L of ECM connector and body ground.
- Compare measurements to the result chart.
Results Of Park Neutral Switch Test:
OK - Proceed to next circuit inspection shown on matrix chart under Diagnosis By Symptom.
NG - Go to Step 3.
2. Check park / neutral position switch.
a. Remove park / neutral position switch.
Park/Neutral Position Switch:
b. Check continuity between each terminal shown below when the shift lever is put in each position.
- Compare measurements to the results chart below.
Normal Continuity Test Results:
OK - Replace park / neutral position switch.
NG - Go to Step 3.
3. Check harness and connectors between ECM and Park / Neutral Position Switch, and between the switch and battery.
OK - Check and replace ECM.
NG - Repair or replace harness or connectors as indicated.
