Inspection Procedure
PROCEDURE1. CHECK VOLTAGE BETWEEN TERMINALS + B, + B1 AND E1 OF ECM CONNECTOR.
- Remove glove compartment.
- Turn ignition switch ON.
Exc. California = Federal:
- Measure voltage between terminals + B, + B1 and E1 of ECM connector.
Voltage: 9 - 14 volts
- If not OK proceed to step 2.
- If OK proceed to DIAGNOSIS BY SYMPTOM.
2. CHECK FOR OPEN IN HARNESS AND CONNECTOR BETWEEN TERMINAL E1 OF ECM AND BODY GROUND.
- If OK proceed to step 3.
- If not OK repair or replace harness or connector.
3. CHECK "EFI MAIN" RELAY.
- Remove "EFI Main" relay from Junction Block No.2.
- Check continuity between terminals of "EFI Main" relay as shown.
Terminals 3 and 5: Open
Terminals 1 and 2: Continuity
- Apply battery voltage between terminals 1 and 2.
- Check continuity between terminals 3 and 5.
Terminals 3 and 5: Continuity
- If OK proceed to step 4.
- If not OK replace "EFI Main" relay.
4. CHECK IGN FUSE.
- Remove IGN fuse from Junction Block No.1.
- Check continuity of IGN fuse.
OK: Continuity
- If OK proceed to step 5.
- If not OK check for short in all the harness and components connected to IGN fuse.
5. CHECK IGNITION SWITCH.
- Remove under cover and finish panel.
- Check for continuity between terminals.
- If OK proceed to step 6.
- If not OK replace ignition switch.
6. CHECK FOR OPEN IN HARNESS AND CONNECTOR BETWEEN IGNITION SWITCH AND "EFI MAIN" RELAY; "EFI MAIN" RELAY AND BODY GROUND.
- If OK proceed to step 7.
- If not OK repair or replace harness or connector.
7. CHECK "EFI" FUSE.
- Remove (15 amp) "EFI" fuse from junction block No.2.
- Check continuity of "EFI" fuse.
OK: Continuity
- If OK check for open in harness and connector between "EFI Main" relay and battery, "EFI Main" relay and ECM.
- If not OK check for short in all the harness and components connected to the "EFI" fuse.
