DTC P0115 - Engine Coolant Temp. Circuit Malfunction

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
A thermistor built into the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor changes the resistance value according to the coolant temperature.
If the Engine Control Module records the Diagnostic Trouble Code P0115, it operates the fail safe function, keeping the engine coolant temperature figure at a constant 80°C (176°F).

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DETECTING CONDITION
- Open or short in Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor circuit.

TROUBLE AREA
- Open or short in Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit.
- Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor.
- Engine Control Module

NOTE: After confirming Data Trouble Code P0115 use the OBDII scan tool or TOYOTA hand-held tester to confirm the engine coolant temperature from "CURRENT DATA".

Temperature displayed -40°C (-40°F): open circuit.
Temperature displayed 20°C (248°F) or more: short Circuit.
