EGR Temperature Sensor: Description and Operation

PURPOSE

The EGR temperature sensor is used for on-board monitoring of EGR function.

LOCATION

The sensor is threaded into the EGR valve.

OPERATION

EGR operation is controlled by the ECU. By measuring the intake manifold side of the EGR passage, the ECU is able to determine whether the EGR is actually opening when the EGR VSV is energized. If proper EGR operation is not detected, the ECU illuminates the "Check Engine" light and sets a trouble code.
