Idle Speed: Adjustments
1. Confirm initial conditions:
a. Air cleaner installed
b. All vacuum lines connected
c. Engine at normal operating temperature
d. Accessories switched OFF
e. Transmission in neutral
Connecting Tachometer:
2. Connect a tachometer to the service connector of the distributor or terminal IG of the check connector.
NOTE: Never let the tachometer lead touch ground as this could cause damage to the igniter and/or coil. Be sure to check that your tachometer is compatible with this ignition system. Consult the operating manual for your instrument.
3. Operate the engine at 2,500 rpm for approximately two minutes.
4. Release the throttle and let engine idle.
Installing Jumper Wire:
5. Connect a jumper wire or Toyota SST #09843-18020 across data link connector terminals E1 and TE1, and check idle speed with cooling fan off.
Should be 750 RPM
Idle Speed Adjustment Screw:
6. Adjust idle speed by turning idle speed adjusting screw.
7. Remove jumper from data link connector.
8. Disconnect tachometer from the engine.
