Clearing Trouble Codes
HOW TO CLEAR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODESRemove The (15 Amp) EFI Fuse To Clear The Malfunction Codes:
- After repair of the trouble area, the diagnostic trouble code retained in the ECM's memory must be cleared by removing the EFI (15 A) fuse for 10 seconds or more, depending on ambient temperature (the lower the temperature, the longer the fuse must be left out), with the ignition switch OFF.
- The diagnostic trouble code can be also cleared by disconnecting the ECM connector.
- ECM memory can be also cleared by removing the negative terminal cable from the battery, but in this case other memory systems (radio, etc.) will also be cleared.
- If the diagnostic trouble code is not cleared, it will be retained by the ECM and appear along with a new code in event of future trouble.
- After clearing the diagnostic trouble code, perform a road test to confirm that a normal code is now read on the "O/D OFF" light.
