EGR Temperature Sensor: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
This sensor measures the temperature of the exhaust gases present at the EGR valve and sends this information to the ECM. The ECM compares this reading to its programmed nominal value to confirm proper EGR system operation.

OPERATION
If the temperature is too high, the ECM determines that the EGR is functioning properly. If a high temperature is not recorded when the valve should be open fault code 71 will be entered into ECM memory and the "CHECK ENGINE" light should illuminate. The EGR Gas Temperature Sensor inputs the ECM through terminal THG.
