Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
This switch is installed on vehicles equipped with electronic controlled transaxle. The switch is activated when the shift lever is in neutral or park position.

OPERATION
The PNP terminal of the ECM is grounded by way of the starter relay and theft deterrent ECM. When the shift lever is moved to any position other than neutral or park, terminal PNP becomes battery voltage. When the shift lever is moved from neutral to drive the signal is used for air-fuel correction, and estimated idle speed control.
