Component Inspection

PROCEDURE
1. CHECK VOLTAGE BETWEEN TERMINALS THW AND E2 OF ECM CONNECTOR.
- Remove glove compartment.
- Turn ignition switch ON.



- Measure voltage between terminals THW and E2 of ECM connector.

Coolant temp. Voltage
20°C (68°F) 0.5 - 3.4 volts
80°C (176°F) 0.2 - 1.0 volts


- If not OK proceed to step 2.
- If OK Check for momentary interruption.

2. CHECK ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR.
- Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector.



- Measure resistance between terminals.




Coolant temp. Resistance
20°C (68°F) 2 - 3 k Ohms
80°C (176°F) 0.2 - 0.4 k Ohms


- If OK proceed to step 3.
- If not OK replace engine coolant temperature sensor.

3. CHECK FOR OPEN OR SHORT IN HARNESS AND CONNECTOR BETWEEN ECM AND ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR.
- If OK Check and replace ECM.
- If not OK Repair or replace harness or connector.
