Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. Connect timing light to engine.






2. Short the service connector with a suitable service wire as shown.






3. Idle speed should be 800 rpm with the check connector shorted, adjust as necessary.






4. Ignition timing should be 10° BTDC at idle. Adjust as necessary.
5. Loosen the distributor hold down bolt and turn the distributor until the mark reads 10° BTDC. Torque the hold down bolt to 20 Nm (14 ft.lbs) and make sure the timing is still at spec.
6. Remove the service wire.






7. Ignition timing should now be at 16° BTDC (M/T) or 12° BTDC (A/T) at idle.
8. Disconnect and remove timing light.
