SUBJECT: PAINT DAMAGE ON U.S. PRODUCED CAMRYS
A small number of U.S. produced Camrys have been involved in an industrial fallout incident resulting in paint damage that appears as water spots on horizontal paint surfaces. Unfortunately, these "water spots" were initially not identified as paint damage and your dealership is one of a limited number of dealers who have received a small number of Camrys with this condition from the early shipments of U.S. produced vehicles.
To prevent reoccurrence on future production, our Kentucky Plant is now applying a protective coating to all Camrys. This coating will be removed just prior to delivery to your dealership.
In order to preserve the quality image of this vehicle and to provide our customers with the best possible product, we request your cooperation in inspecting and repairing as necessary all U.S. produced Camrys indicated on the enclosed list. If a vehicle on this list has been retailed, the customer should be contacted and the vehicle inspected and repaired as necessary.
For your information, U.S. produced Camrys can easily be identified by checking the first three digits of the vehicle identification number which are 4T1 for all Camry models.
Reimbursement procedures for this project are also included in the inspection and repair procedures.
Please make sure that all personnel involved are thoroughly familiar with the content of the inspection and repair procedures and carefully follow the steps outlined therein.
All affected vehicles at port locations and rail heads are being inspected and repaired prior to delivery to your dealership. Consequently, any Camrys delivered to your dealership after October 1, 1988 do not require inspections or repairs.
If you have any questions, please contact your region/private distributor office.
We apologize for any inconvenience or delays this situation may cause.
