SUBJECT: PAINT DAMAGE ON U.S. PRODUCED CAMRYS
As you know, a small number of U.S. produced Camrys have been involved in an industrial fallout incident resulting in paint damage that appears as water spots on horizontal paint surfaces.
Unfortunately, these "water spots" were initially not identified as paint damage and some of these units were shipped in this condition to a limited number of dealers during the month of September, 1988.
The attached letter, inspection/repair procedures, and a list of vehicles involved, have been sent to these dealers by overnight air express to take care of affected units. A summary report of vehicles in your area is included for your reference.
Our Kentucky plant is now applying a protective coating on all Camrys to prevent this situation from occurring in the future. This coating will be removed prior to final delivery to your dealers.
Additionally, all vehicles at port location and rail heads are being inspected and repaired before delivery to dealers.
We appreciate any necessary support your staff can provide to assure a successful repair and minimum delays.
If your staff requires any technical assistance, please have them contact our TMS Technical Assurance Department in Torrance, California.
Thanks again for your cooperation.
REIMBURSEMENT PROCEDURE
The following instructions should be used when submitting claims for paint damage repair for the THM Camry vehicles specified above.
* Many repairs will not require maximum labor hours, therefore claim actual time required for repair up to the maximum allowed.
^ Claim type: Submit claim using regular (RG) claim type.
^ Use original part number: 63111-32050
^ Trouble codes: Use T-1 = 61 and T-2 = 99
^ Condition/Cause/Remedy: Describe repair performed in detail.
^ Sublet: If materials are required, use sublet "xx". If portions of the repair must be sublet by the dealer, claim those portions of the repair in the sublet section of the claim and adjust the labor hours accordingly.
^ Authorization: Authorization is required by DSM only for Repair Class 4.
